Doctorate @ USC

Donation protected
They ask me what is my legacy? The search is complicated but in reality it should be easy.  I am mother, I am daughter, I am a sister and a friend. I am my social justice work and  the healing of humanity. I am the streets of Washington Heights and the Dominican Repulic. I try to touch the lives of the people in my life they way they have touched mine. I live so that I can leave my finger prints. I simply am.

Today, I ask for your support as I embark on getting my Doctorate Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California beginning Jan 2017.   Your donation will cover my first semester, books and travel to USC.  I will be looking for grants and other support for the following 2 years but need your support to start in Janurary.

In 2005, as part of an assignment, I was asked to write down 30 wishes that I thought would be impossible. 11 years laters and I am requesting your support to live into one of them. Getting my Phd.

Why a DSW?

A significant focus of the DSW program is that I will take on 1 of the  12 “Grand Challenges,” a global initiative of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare. Each challenge is focused on a specific issue—from social justice to child welfare, from homelessness to mass incarceration, to other critical issues that impact the social fabric of our world and drive social workers every day.

I have selected the grand challenge to End Gender Violence and Eradiacte violence against women and girls and will develop a capstone project proposed solution including a budget and plan which I will them pitch to a panel of thought leaders, venture capitalists as well as faculty members.

What your donation will support!
Your Donation will support me in producing a clearly articulated vision and a cross-cutting prevention and intervention model that will be multilevel and intersectional built on the lived experience of women and girls through epidemiological research that will impact the nation and the world.  A model that has a human rights and social justice frame work that will bridge the best practices of social work and public health systems towards a radical paradigm-shift of the way we talk, heal and create violence prevention programs towards the restoration of people and the communities they live in. It will support me in creating multidisciplinary teams that can address gender violence at the intersection of state violence, economic violence, racial profiling, police brutality, immigration, LGBTQ and reproductive justice as gender violence is varied, interrelated, and epidemic affecting multiple constituencies and resulting in long term impact and global dissemination.
