Declan's fight against Osteosarcoma

My brother Declan Diaz is the most amazing, caring, spunky, fun-loving, creative, bright, fascinating 15-year-old young man. Anyone who has had the pleasure of spending time with him understands that he is one in a million in the most fantastic ways. To know him and to be a part of his story is truly a blessing.
In July 2017, Declan began experiencing pain in his left leg and hip. My parents immediately began pursuing answers for this pain as it was actively getting worse as time passed. The pain began to affect Declan's ability to participate in the things he loves most such as: hiking in the mountains, riding his bike, going to Disneyland, and even getting through his school day. Time passed, and doctors worked to find the answer but struggled to pin-point what was going on.
On October 10th, 2017 my parents were finally given an answer, and it was the last thing any parent wants to hear. Chrondoblastic Osteosarcoma in the left pelvis. The tumor is quite large, approximately 4 inches in size and has been the source of Declan's pain. The news of cancer is heartbreaking and truly devastating. It's something no one should have to experience and fight, let alone a child.
Declan will be going through a long road of treatment to fight this aggressive bone cancer. He has currently completed Round 1 of chemo, but has many more ahead of him. The doctors plan to begin Declan's treatment with some strong doses of chemotherapy before going in for a major surgery to remove the tumor. After the surgery Declan will resume chemotherapy in hopes of removing all of the cancer.
My parents are truly amazing and have been the most wonderful support system for my brother. They are caring for his every need and helping him through every step, every hoop, and every moment. My goal in creating this GoFundMe Campaign is to help remove the additional stresses and concerns that my parents shouldn't have to be thinking about right now. Donations made will help go towards things such as:
- Medical expenses
- Medical supplies to help protect Declan at home as his immune system is weak throughout chemotherapy and treatments
- Travel expenses for Doctor's visits, hospital stays, and treatment days
- Organic foods and clean eating options for Declan to fuel his body with the right things during this time
- Any other unexpected costs that my parents may face during this long journey.
I have watched my parents give their hearts and souls to those around them; constantly caring for and supporting loved ones and those in the community who may need it. I am asking now that we show them the same love and support that they have shown time and time again to those in need. Anything helps, and every donation is truly and deeply appreciated from the bottoms of all of our hearts.
