I am asking for donations to help the family of one little boy who just had another surgery in regards to a previous cancer diagnosis several years ago. Please read below.
My name is Krystal and I am a Paramedic in Alberta.
In 2009, when Declan was 10 months old, he was diagnosed with Astrocytoma, which in short, is a spinal cord tumor. He had surgery at that time but the tumor had returned 8 months later and Declan required a second surgery and 28 rounds of radiation... which is where I come in. I met Declan and his mother Lindsay while transferring Declan from the Stollery Childrens Hospital to the Cross Cancer Institute. Normally I do not connect myself with my patients, in order to keep myself healthy, but I fell involve with this little boy and kept in contact with Lindsay throughout the years. Declan has gone through several additional hospital stays and surgeries and is currently in hospital recovering from a surgery to lengthen four muscles in each of his legs due to the previous tumor causing his muscles to lack growth (which will have to be done every 3-4 years until he stops growing).

Lindsay will be living with Declan, at his side, for the next 14 weeks while he recovers and rehabilitates, away from home and their family. With these illnesses and surgeries, Lindsay obviously has conflict with her ability to work a normal full time job and make a single income to care for herself and Declans 2 siblings. Luckily Lindsay has a loving family and understanding and loving children that support her and Declan in these times of need.
Declan also currently uses a wheelchair and a walker as well as needing other needs of accessibility, which we all know, doesn't come at a cheap price.
So with this being said, I am opening of this funds page in hopes that it will raise money to help with any financial stress that this family has had to go through in the last 9 years.
