Deb Sprague's Mama Grace Medical Fund

I never dreamed I’d take this step, but I’m in need of some help from my friends.  Or, more precisely, my disabled mother and I are in need of some help.

 Over the last couple of years, my mom, who some of you know well, has had a number of physical setbacks, including several serious falls that required hospitalizations and confined her to a wheelchair. Between those stays, she needed home care that quickly went from a couple of hours a day to around-the-clock tending for more than a year before I could move her to a facility. 

 That situation resulted in an extremely large hospital and home health aide debt that I was forced to dtake over to ensure she got and kept the care – and those bills, which have reached mid-five figures, have put me in a completely untenable position. I have squeezed every possible dollar out of every possible place, maxing out credit cards, withdrawing retirement cash and taking out two loans. Now, I’ve been told that I can't withdraw what remains in my 401K, which isn't much, without quitting my job. That, clearly, is not an option.

I don't have a clue as to how to pay off this extremely large amount on my own, and I’ve dug myself a pretty deep financial hole trying to make headway. Mama Grace, as my friends have come to call her, is in need:  It’s all come to a head at once and I am asking for a hand. We're only seeking help in raising exactly what we need to settle what needs to be paid within the next few weeks – not the full amount, which is a great deal larger – in order to keep her in the safe and secure nursing home where she now resides.

 I know things are hard for a lot of people right now, and we both thank anyone who’s able to help, or simply offer emotional support.
