Deacon Roger Steven Reuter was born February 2, 2017. He already had quite the head of hair for his debut! Deacon showed what a strong little guy he was in his first few weeks of life, especially when, at 3 weeks old, he had his first open heart surgery to repair his aortic arch and narrow one of the two holes in his heart. Deacon was born with Oculo-Auriculo Vertebral Disorder, where the left side of his body was most affected. He has only one lung and his ribs are fused on the left side. His ears did not fully form bilaterally, but we were so pleased to find out that he can, in fact, hear! Deacon has had two open heart surgeries so far, the latest being a PA band to help correct the blood flow to his lung. He will need another surgery in the near future to repair the holes in his heart. He is on a ventilator that is hooked up to his trach and he is working hard to prove that he won't need it when he's older, along with his g-tube and a few other things. Deacon is one tough little boy and we'd like to set aside some funds for various procedures that he will need. Maybe one day, Deacon will be able to have his little ears fixed as well! Go Deacon!
