The story of a boy

Once there was a happy little boy. He and his brother played outside with his little sister. They played every day; they were busy boys and loved doing stuff boys do.

Unfortunately, in May this year, one of the boys named Luwan became poorly, his mouth was full of cold sores, concerned his father took him to the A&E in Darrent Valley Hospital. They treated him for the cold sores but send him home with a fever that became so severe they had to take him back to the hospital. He was diagnosed with an ear infection and sent home with antibiotics. After five days there was no improvement and his parents Barry and Felicia took him back to A&E where the doctor told them the ear infection cleared but they now suspected tonsillitis.

At the end of June, Luwan complained of severe leg pain, unable to walk they rushed him to the hospital where the doctors told his parents he encountered a virus. Sent back home with medicines he showed improvement.  At the end of June, he became ill again and had to stay overnight at the hospital where they ran blood tests and did a few scans, he was transferred to Evaline hospital where a lot of more invasive tests were performed. Still, there was no diagnosis and a bone marrow sample were obtained under anaesthesia.

The test results diagnosed the boy with leukaemia, his devastated parents waited for the doctors to tell them how severe his illness has progressed.

A Hematologist then came to see them and told them that the diagnosis of leukaemia was incorrect after they ran some more tests; there now was no sign of leukaemia.  He was transferred to St George’s Hospital in London and this where he is now.

His father, Barry, stays with him all the time in the hospital while his mother Felicia is at home with his siblings. They do not see much of each other and his brother finds this very hard.

Barry, who has a music school cannot work at the moment because he is with Luwan in hospital, his mom Felicia is a part-time teacher and her income won’t be able to sustain their family.

We are asking anyone who will be able to donate some money to help this young family. We need to help them cover their expenses until his dad Barry can work fulltime again and he is home again.

Even a small amount of money can help this family to survive. It is in times like these that a little bit of help can make a huge difference.
