Help Heather Kick Cancer!

One month ago, six days after her thirty-seventh birthday, Heather received the news that we all hope to never hear- “You have cancer”. Her official diagnosis is invasive ductal carcinoma. The scans showed that the cancer has spread into her lymph nodes, her spine, her pelvic bone, and around her liver, classifying it as stage 4. This means the cancer is not curable, only manageable.
Heather was admitted to the hospital last week to run several tests on her heart to make sure it was strong enough to withstand the effects of chemotherapy. The test showed she has a condition called mitral valve regurgitation. This causes blood to back flow into the lungs. Although this is an issue that needs to be fixed, the doctors have decided to go ahead and start chemo. Heather will continue antibiotics for her heart, start chemo, and because this type of cancer feeds off of estrogen, she will also begin taking medications to start menopause.
Heather is a fighter! Anyone who knows her will tell you that. She is one of the strongest, most independent women you will meet, which makes this even harder for her. She would never ask anyone for help, but it would be prideful and silly to act like she couldn’t use it. While she focuses on this battle in front of her, she will not be able to support herself and her four beautiful children financially like she normally would, and that is a hard fact for her to accept.
Cancer is a term that has touched each of us in some way or another. Every single one of us has had a loved one or friend be affected by this disease. So we all know help is needed. How can you help? First and foremost, pray! Pray for strength, pray for comfort, pray for healing, pray for peace at such a difficult time. The other way to help, of course, is to donate. But the single most helpful thing you can do for her and her family is to share this fundraiser, and ask others to share. The rest will fall into place.
