As many of you know, my father has been sick for quite some time. It has been a very long and difficult road. There have been many hospital visits that turned into extended stays. While away in Seattle for my wedding, we were staying on Lopez island and knew my dad had to go in. It was very scary and I felt so guilty for having him travel so far away from home. However, UW Medical Center was fantastic and finally told us that my dad did, in fact, need a transplant. It was a very difficult time as my husband and I left Seattle without my mom and dad who stayed behind but we finally knew what we needed to do moving forward. Many of these hospital visits left me wondering whether he would be able to come home at all. It has been extremely stressful and often has felt like a very sickening rollercoaster. We all know how my father is so he would constantly tell me not to come home from school each time he went to the hospital. However, this past weekend, he finally said that he wanted me to come home and see him so I was afraid this was the last hospital visit. On Tuesday, he was air lifted to Mayo and we finally got the news we have been hoping for....my dad is on the transplant list and at the top! This is extremely good news but the journey is just beginning. Both my mother and father will be at Mayo for an indefinite amount of time meaning they are both not working. As a family, we have made it work up until this point, but the medical bills are already extensive from the over 22 ER visits/extended stays my father has had over the past year. Also, if you visit my father, do not mention anything about a gofundme page! He may kill me later! Anything helps and we appreciate all of those who have already reached out, visited our father, or just checked up on all of us as it is a very difficult time. I think I can speak for everyone that we are overwhelmed with the support and apologize if we do not get back to everyone in a timely manner as it is a very busy/difficult time for all of us. Anything helps and we appreciate it! Also, we will be having a benefit in December so if you would like to donate to that instead, please let me or one of my sisters know. We will be posting updates on that as well.
