David Reese Family

On October 18th, David Reese had an accident with a forklift on one of his landscaping job sites. Unfortunately, this resulted in multiple pelvic fractures and a shattered hip socket. After being rushed to the hospital, internal bleeding was found near the small intestine, requiring abdominal surgery. Additional orthopedic surgeries on his hip and pelvis followed. A few days later, pathology reports of the resected portion of the intestine were positive for carcinoid tumor.

Given the option to remove more of the carcinoid (requiring even more surgery), or starting the road to recovery, he and his medical team decided to hold off on additional surgery. David was eager to work hard in his Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy sessions and was hoping to discharge to an inpatient rehabilitation program as soon as possible.

In the days that followed, David experienced increasing abdominal pain and was not feeling well. The doctors then discovered fluid in his abdomen, causing an infection. After being treated for a couple of days with antibiotics and draining the fluid, David was not progressing quite as expected, and his medical team suspected there may be some type of intestinal leak, causing the infection and fluid in his abdomen. The decision was made to perform David’s 4th surgery in order to explore the abdomen and resolve the problem. The surgeon was able to find and repair a leak and resect more of the carcinoid, including a small portion of his colon. While he did well in surgery, given the lapse in time between operations, the recovery and healing process will likely be tougher. He will remain hospitalized and be monitored over the next week or so before discharging to inpatient rehabilitation.

David Reese is the husband to Lori Reese and the father of four daughters. David and Lori will face mounting medical bills in addition to David being unable to work or earn income for several months, likely a year. At this point, it is unlikely that he will be able to return to heavy-lifting and intense physical labor that his job has always required, which he has passionately done his entire life.

The love and support that has been poured out to the Reese family has been overwhelming, and so many have asked how they can help. David has truly had an influence on several people and it's been great to see. We ask for continued prayers, thoughts, kind words, and whatever else you feel compelled to put out there.
