As most of you have heard by now, my brother-in-law, David Cambarare had a horrific accident. On Labor Day, he went mountain biking at French Creek Reservation with his friend, Jonathon. They had been riding only about a half hour when David had a freak accident and fell about 30-40 feet off of a cliff resulting in many injuries. David was life flighted from the scene to the trauma center. David's injuries include 5 fractures in his pelvis, 6 fractured vertebrae, 5 broken ribs, fractured sacrum, fractured left hand, lacerated spleen, partially collapsed lung. Needless to say, he has a long recovery before him.
First, I would like to say how incredibly grateful we are that David was wearing a helmet and survived the fall. Per their children, Erica (David's wife) is the "safety police" in their home and would make sure he ALWAYS had his helmet. Second, I want to make note that neither of them would EVER ask for financial help. You might see them asking for help with the boys and bribing people to help with their crazy dogs (particularly Bill Murray), but you will NEVER see them asking for money.
As you can imagine, he has a looooong road ahead of of him. He will likely be transferred from Metro to a rehab center this coming weekend, if all goes as planned. The medical team is not giving any indication on length of recovery or when he will return to work. Like all tragic situations, there will not only be loss of income but also the cost of medical bills, travel, food, etc. We feel compelled to do this for the two of them, because again, even if they are drowning financially, they would never ask for help.
