David Casey is the kind of man who will say yes. Do you need to clear a tree from your property? He’llhelp. Do you need to tile, roof, construct, or deconstruct something on your house? He knows a guy, and they’ll both be over this weekend. Do you need someone to listen because you’ve had a hard day? He is so there, probably with some candy and a ridiculous joke to cheer you up.
David the kind of guy who can’t sit still for long – up early to run and spend time with his wife and son, work around his house, read about the latest addictions research, and then off to work. David is a social
worker who has dedicated his life to helping others find hope and direction. He particularly loves working with addictions recovery, and spends every day supporting others in their journey. He also loves to do Jiu Jitsu, play Magic: The Gathering, and critically assess social structures for inequality. He’s a man of many talents and a world of passion. Did we mention he just got married?
When David started having shoulder pain at the beginning of February, it didn’t really slow him down…until it did. For the last month, David has been unable to work because of a spinal injury which has debilitated him. He recently learned that he will need emergency neck and spine surgery and will have to be off work for three months. For a man who is always on the go, always doing things that help others, providing for his family, and improving himself, this is a huge blow.
If you know David, he’s not the kind to ask for help, but he’s the first to offer it. Many of the people who read this will have received some support from David, because that’s just what he does. Now he needs our help. Over the next few months, David and his family will take a significant cut in income and face a lot of medical bills. Our goal is to make him as comfortable as possible, to show him that all the love he’s poured into his community is going to flow right back to him.
