David and Cassie - Brain Tumor Fund

I'm asking for help.

My brother-in-law, David, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme (Stage IV Brain Cancer) on New Year’s Day, 2016. As you may have recently learned from Senator John McCain’s diagnosis, the prognosis is terrible (the worst). This is a fast growing, aggressive, malignant tumor. The life expectancy after diagnosis is typically a year, yet David is approaching 2 years – enduring brain surgery, chemo and radiation, more surgery, and seizures.

David has worked for an orphanage in Columbia, South Carolina for nearly a decade, making sure the children were well taken care of, comfortable, and safe. He is no longer able to work. Cassie, my sister, who, herself is disabled, has been his primary care giver since David first showed symptoms of the cancer.

With the state of insurance being what it is these days, their health benefits have barely left them with enough money left over at the end of the month to keep food on the table. No respite care is available for my sister, who does not have a far-reaching network of friends and relatives in close proximity to her.

I am trying to raise enough money to keep them moving forward in their fight against this raging cancer, and relieve the stress they face daily. They are still responsible for their rent, utilities, cost of living, on top of the tremendous out-of-pocket expenses associated with his medications, chemo treatments, and insurance premiums and insurance copays.

Their car is on its last legs, and they surely aren’t in a position to buy a new one. This is yet another source of stress - making it to the doctor’s visits and treatments, is yet another thing weighing heavily on them both. The home they now rent is part of the orphanage (where my brother-in-law worked) and is only offered to employees. As he is no longer an active employee, so this “benefit” may be taken from them at any time. My sister has exhausted every possible source of assistance in South Carolina – and there is nothing available to them. The option given was “once they become homeless, they can apply to be put on a waiting list for housing assistance.

I want to make this horrible situation as doable as possible for them. Please help me provide my sister and her husband with a little assistance to help them get by, make a difference, and let them know that they are not alone. If you are not able to make a donation (or even if you can!), please share this link so that others may help!

Thank you for your time and help!

Love,

Jennifer
