Dave's Australian Misadventure
Early on the morning of January 12, Dave was mountain biking on a black diamond-rated track in Forrest, Victoria, when he took a drop wrong and went straight over the handlebars, landing face first into the ground. He was knocked unconscious for nearly two minutes, and when he came-to, he couldn't remember his name, the year, or the names of the people he was with.
Due to the severity of the fall, Dave had to be airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital. Thankfully, his concussion was mild (he was wearing a helmet!) and aside from sprained wrists he suffered no permanent damage.
In Australia, Uk citizens receive reciprocal healthcare. However, this cover does NOT extend to ambulances, or air ambulances. As a result, Dave now has a devastating $13,000 AUD bill on his hands.
Despite receiving the bill on January 28, he was given a deadline to pay it off by February 4. He has extended the due date to March 8 and paid the bill out-of-pocket for the vehicular ambulance (the rest is the bill for the air ambulance) so we're going to see how close we can get to the final amount by February 29. Your help is greatly appreciated!
