Darren was hospitalized at Unity Hospital in critical care on September 25 with pneumonia and a lung infection. While receiving treatment including use of a ventilator he showed signs of improvement.
Then, at 4 weeks he went into shock and complete respiratory failure.
On October 22 he was transferred to Abbott Northwester Hospital. While in Abbott's critical care unit Darren was placed on an Ecmo machine (lung bypass) and ventilator with tracheotomy. While receiving this treatment doctors also had to identify and treat a blood infection.
After 5-1/2 weeks of expert care at Abbott Darren's health improved enough to allow removal of the lung bypass machine and ventilator then transfer to Regency acute care hospital on November 30.
While at Regency he will continue to receive treatment and start the rehabilitation process.
Doctors have stated his recovery will be a slow process due to the severity of illness and time spent hospitalized.
Darren is personally driven to recover as quickly as his body will allow so he can reconnect with the activities and people that are important in his life.
