Darrella’s Bone Marrow Transplant

First, let me tell you about Darrella, the person we are raising money to support. Darrella has the biggest heart and will do anything in her power to help anyone. She’s a phenomenal nurse- having been a part of the births of thousands of babies in the community. Her home has been a refuge to many of her children’s friends who need a safe place. We jokingly call her home “casa de Darrella” (local joke) as she always is bringing in those who need a home. She is always there for her friends as a constant source of love and support. (Me included- I can text her at 3am knowing she will give

She has been suffering the last couple of years with mysterious symptoms and ailments, enduring surgeries and hospitalizations with no one understanding why.
Finally, late last year, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma- a cancer of the blood plasma. This was not the answer any of us were hoping for. However, we knew and know that Darrella is a fighter and we all vowed to fight with her. She has been enduring chemo and keeping life as normal as possible. She has been unable to work during this time.
The time has come for her to add a bone marrow transplant to her treatment plan. This is a huge mountain for her to climb physically, but it is absolutely necessary to give her the best possible outcome. It requires being out of state for an extended amount of time, physical endurance like nothing else, and a financial burden that we can’t imagine. The choices of where to have the transplant are in expensive areas.
One amazing blessing has been the quality of insurance our employer offers. However, due to the amount of time she will have to be out of town, and then isolated in her home to avoid illness, she will have to be transferred to COBRA. This cost isn’t feasible for anyone even working regularly, let alone a single mom who is unable to work because of her cancer diagnosis.
This campaign will go to fully support her COBRA costs as she undergoes her bone marrow transplant. Any amount of money, love and prayers is appreciated. Let’s rally together to support and give back to someone who has given so much of herself to our community.
