Who we are:

Dare To Create is a new creative organisation that hopes to strengthen the engagement of individuals based in hard to reach areas in the creative and performing arts.

Our mission is to improve the wellbeing of various groups of people by using creativity to boost confidence and provide individuals with a sense of empowerment over their own learning and creativity as well as developing a feeling of belonging and an ability to communicate their thoughts and feelings affectively through new and exciting channels.

Dare to Create Scarborough:

Dare to Create Scarborough looks to engage 2 groups of young creatives through weekly workshops focussed on writing and performance. The workshops will be led by 2 established artists and introduce the groups to creative techniques they can use collectively and individually to communicate their experiences and grow their confidence and creativity.

Alongside her own performance career, Katie also directs shows for the YMCA theatre and has designed and facilitated several creative outreach projects for young people aged 13-18, collaborating with various venues including YMCA Scarborough, Brunswick Shopping Centre and Scarborough Disability in Action. Katie has also been teaching Drama as an academic subject in Whitby for over 2 years as well as facilitating a weekly Drama club for KS3 students focussed on confidence building which culminates in a summer showcase each year.

The Project:

The team at Dare to Create know and have experienced the benefit creating arts can have on a young person’s well-being. Particularly when it comes to developing confidence. By providing young people with the skills to explore their own voice through writing and performance, this project aims to provide young people with the tools they need to grow as a well-rounded adult as they begin to find their place in the world.

Dare to Create will achieve these aims by inviting 2 groups of young people, aged 13-18 and 18-25 to participate in weekly workshops focusing on writing and performance in a number of areas including poetry, prose and theatre, taking part in confidence boosting activities and extending their creative skills.

In the first year of the project the participants will be provided with a safe space to explore their creativity, and develop their confidence which will culminate in a sharing showcase comprised of work from both groups, giving them an opportunity to present their work and progress to external audiences.

Where will the funds go:

We're asking for your support as we set up this new project up by donating as little or as much as you can afford, sending a message of support or by spreading the word.

Any funds raised will go directly towards making this project the best it can be.

Not only this, but it will also help us prove this project is needed and wanted in the community, giving us a better chance of securing any additional funding we apply for.
