Hurricane Irma Relief for the B.V.I

Nestled quietly and radiantly in the Caribbean is the beautiful jewel the British Virgin Islands. Hurricane Irma has ravished her lush hills, beautiful beaches, homes, businesses, and lovely spirit. I have had the experience of living through 3 major hurricanes as a child and never have I ever experienced anything quite like this. My heart aches as though I have lost a loved one. My home is in ruins; nothing was saved, all memories of my childhood ripped outside by the force of nature. My father had to run for his life from room to room, until no room was safe. He then had to make the tough decision to run outside to his tenant’s home below him. Thankfully his life was spared, but all material possessions lost. My father, like 90% of the country lost everything: his clothes, shoes, furniture, vehicle, etc. all destroyed.
Tanaysha Henry and I are both active duty soldiers who grew up together in the British Virgin Islands. Her grandparents (both disabled) home got destroyed (nothing salvaged) and they are living in a shelter. Her many other family members living 12+ to a home with damages.
Although a sad story, rest assured that the people of the British Virgin Islands are strong, resilient, and hopeful! We will rebuild, but it will take time, effort, and the love from generous individuals, like you, who are willing and able to give.
My first efforts are focused on purchasing portable gas generators. Power will not be restored for at least 8 months and having a light in this time of darkness and the ability to power a refrigerator is important; it will lift spirits. My next phase is the rebuilding of homes. In order to do this, power tools are needed; electric saws, nail guns, chainsaws, etc.
With your help I will make the first purchase on Wednesday September 13th, for 3 generators ($393.06 per generator). I will have them sent to Miami Florida, from there, they will be sent via cargo ship to the port on Tortola. My father will then receive the shipment and delivery one generator to the Henry family and the 3rd generator to one final family to be chosen. This was accomplished successfully!!!!
I will continue to choose families to receive goods as the donations come in. I am also buying fans; one of the main complaints is that the heat is unbearable.
I am currently in Hawaii, Tanaysha in Texas, on active duty and cannot be in the BVI at this moment. When we are allowed to leave, our efforts will be then be focused on helping to clean and rebuild physically. As a child I helped my dad build his home, now as an adult, I will do the very same. Tanaysha and I are no strangers to hard work and discipline. It will take long day, long night, and many sacrifices to get our homes restored, but we are resilient and ready to work in unison.
