I am 37 years old and facing Stage 4 cancer. I am a happily married husband of 14 years, and my wife and I have been blessed with three wonderful children, ages 5, 4, and 1. I serve as an Associate Professor and Acting Chair of the Music Department at Union University and I am also the Music Minister at Parkview Baptist. The foundation of my life is my faith in Christ.
Just a few months ago I began noticing some GI abnormalities. Our doctor referred me to a specialist who recommended a colonoscopy to investigate. May 26, 2017 is when everything changed for us. We were all surprised that during the proceedure, the specialist discovered a tumor partially blocking my lower colon. A follow up CT scan on May 31 showed enlarged lymphnodes and many spots on my liver. Because of this, I have been diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal adenocarcinoma which has metastisized to my liver. Medically, this may be controllable, but not curable. We believe, however, that God can do mighty things, including cure what man may not be able to.
Our family has claimed the hymn "Be Still My Soul " as a source of encouragement and challenge. We have also claimed Isaiah 41:10 as areminder of God's presence and protection during this trial.
"Fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Your contribution to this fund will help us with current and future medical bills (We anticipate at least one trip to M.D. Anderson and several trips to Vanderbilt.), as well as the many other expenses we will have related to this disease. I plan to continue my work at Union and Parkview everyday that I am able. My wife has set everything aside to focus on taking care of our children and me.
