Captain Luis Fernando Guillen Diaz is the captain of the Panga “Maria Bonita” located in beautiful Bahia De Los Angeles, BC Mexico. He is married to Yesenia Murillo and is the father of three beautiful kids. Some f you may have fished in Bahia over the years and may know Fernando personally.
His older daughter Daniela Guillen Murillo is only three years old and was born with Hirschsprung's disease. A condition of the large intestine (colon) that causes difficulty passing stool. Hirschsprung's disease involves missing nerve cells in the muscles of part or all of the large intestine (colon). Present at birth, it causes difficulty passing stool. The main symptom is a newborn's failure to have a bowel movement within 48 hours after birth. Other symptoms include a swollen belly and vomiting. Surgery is needed to bypass the affected part of the colon or remove it entirely.
Daniela lives a semi-normal life but due to her age and lack of resources in that region, she was not a candidate to get the surgery. HOWEVER, recent studies were very positive and a doctor in Mexico City is willing to perform the surgery. As you can imagine the surgery is very difficult, expensive and out of Fernando’s ability to fund this surgery. He has saved over the years to fund multiple test and seen many doctors only to be told that they could not perform the surgery to help his daughter.
The next step is for Fernando to come up with the funds for the surgery and after care for his daughter. At that point, we will schedule the surgery in Mexico City where he and his wife will have to travel to for a few weeks to perform the surgery and hope everything goes well. Needless to say we would like to get Daniela this surgery as soon as possible so she can live a full normal life. This is where you can help us.
We started this fund raiser in hopes we can reach as many people as possible to help Fernando and his family. We understand that we are living in hard times with COVID-19 and many of you may not be able to help but we ask you to share this post with everyone. The overall cost of the surgery is about $8k dollars but we do not know how much the after care and logistics will cost. Our target is $10K in hopes that this will cover most of the expenses.
