Hello my name is Dane Chopp, my team at Cisco and I are fundraising for our dear friend and contractor Daniel Scheeres. A colon cancer patient since August 2014, Daniel’s cancer reached stage 4 since last year when his cancer came back and spread to the liver and bones. Known at work as "the most interesting man in the world" and "Dr. Data", Daniel never missed a day of work during his battle and continues to maintain the greatest attitude about life, even given the cards he's been dealt.
About Daniel: An avid Purdue University fan, Daniel played college football at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Daniel always has a funny joke or story to tell related to almost any subject matter you throw at him. He loves to share his knowledge and stories with you-- if you have time to listen. He's a coffee snob (always a fresh pot when Daniel's around!), multi-lingual and well-traveled, kind and always giving of his time. The epitome of a family man- dedicated to taking care of his beautiful Italian wife, Grazia, and teenagers, Sara and Erik. If you have the time, Daniel can go on all day about his family, not only about how amazing his two children and supportive wife are, but also about how he can be a better parent.
Daniel’s hobby outside work for many years has been coaching his kids in different sports, starting with basketball of course (together with his wife), then soccer and football in different local leagues. Most recently, since his mobility has been limited, he enjoys watching travel and cooking shows, especially on one of his favorite dishes, smoked meat. Daniel also loves playing Xbox with Erik and wishes he could attend more of his soccer games.
His daughter Sara loves to write and she wanted to share her words: "It's very difficult to see my dad suffering, but he's very good at hiding it. He's so strong. I just want him to get well so our family can go back to quizzing each other about geography at dinner and going on trips to the grocery store to shop for one specific fancy meal and arguing about which movie to watch on a Friday night. I just want him to be healthy and happy and be able to be a full-time Dad again."
The support that Daniel, Grazia, Sara and Erik have received so far from family, friends, and co-workers has been amazing. This GoFundMe has been set up on behalf of Daniel to help take care of his family and the mounting medical bills as he devotes his time to battling cancer.
