Help Me Help Massachusetts

Hey Everyone,

Thank you for checking out my Go Fund Me page! As many of you know, I have been involved in the greater LGBTQ movement for almost a decade now. I got my start as a field organizer with Equality California back in 2009, where I was working to persuade voters on the issue of marriage equality. Fast forward nine years and I'm still here, working as a development professional for the National Center for Transgender Equality.

I don't have to tell anyone how important this upcoming election is. But something you may not know (especially if you aren't a Massachusetts resident) is that there is a campaign that will have a HUGE impact on the national LGBTQ movement for years to come in Massachusetts this year. I'm talking about the campaign around Question 3.

Question 3 is the “Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Veto Referendum” on the ballot in Massachusetts this election. While that may be a mouthful to say, it really is quite simple: a YES vote upholds the law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity in public spaces (i.e. restaurants, stores, etc.), while a NO vote would allow discrimination against our transgender friends and family in Massachusetts. YES=GOOD. NO=BAD.

Massachusetts legislators passed Senate Bill 2407 in July of 2016 and it went into effect in October 2016. Transgender residents of Massachusetts have benefited from the protections afforded by this law for the past two years. There is absolutely no logical reason to take this protection away other than to advance hatred and discrimination. Something our opposition, unfortunately, loves to do.

I'm raising money so that I can put my experience to use and travel to Massachusetts to work there on the ground during the final days of the campaign. I have volunteered to work on this campaign because it is extremely important to me and so many people who I deeply care about. I'm asking for my friends and family to help me pay for travel expenses.

I've set my goal for $1,500 so that I can afford all my travel expenses. This includes airfare, a car rental, insurance coverage, gas, and a small stipend for the weird amount of take out I'll have while traveling/campaigning for two weeks. I've worked out supporter housing with the campaign so I thankfully don't have to incur those costs.

Please join me in this fight by helping me get to Massachusetts. I promise to do everything I can there to help make a difference.
