Help Daniel get to New York for the NYC Marathon

Hello,

My name is Daniel Nevarez and I am fundraising because I was given the opportunity to participate in this year’s New York City Marathon through Achilles International on November 6th, 2022.

I recently lost my vision in 2019 due to Myopic Degeneration causing me to have 3 retinal detachments and constant bleeds in my eyes. This caused me to go on Long Term Disability from my job and learn how to navigate my life with a vision loss.

Since then, I went through Vocational Rehabilitation learning new skills on how to do everyday tasks differently. I use a white cane and have learned to read in Braille and cook and clean on my own. I have also been approved to receive a Guide Dog from guide dogs for the blind.

the past 3 years have been very difficult to say the least, with the vision loss, being diagnosed with Bi-polar 2 and fighting depression and anxiety.

I found my way out of all this through running. While in the vocational program, they asked what I liked to do and I said it was running, so I joined Achilles International, which helps people with a disability run and participate in events with the help of s guided runner.

i started running last year thanks to a good friend and ran 4 races, competing in a couple of 5k’s a 10k and s 15k. I was told a couple months back that I was good enough to

enter my name in a drawing to be able to run in this year’s NYC marathon. Never in a million years would I ever imagine being picked to run in this race.

I have never been to New York City before and it’s now it’s becoming a reality. I will be running with my guide Brian on November 6th.

My family snd cousins are also helping me with food Fundraisers in the next upcoming months to help cover costs for travel, food and lodge.

I can no longer see the world with my eyes but Plan on feeling it through my running. It’s helped me continue to live my life.
