"Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security" -- Jeremiah 33:6 (NIV)

Blessings all,

Do you remember what you were doing 30 days ago?  You might have been spending time with family reflecting on the decade rapidly drawing to a close or possibly remembering the newest family memories that you made celebrating our Savior’s birth.

As we were reflecting on the decade now in our rear view mirror and welcoming in the brand new decade, our dear friend and brother in Christ, Dan Fink, began to suffer symptoms of what seemed to be a common cold. As any of us would do, Dan took the necessary steps to get himself on the mend, so that he would be ready to welcome the second semester with his students.

Unfortunately, as the early days of the new year passed by, Dan's cold continue to increase in severity. What was thought to be a common cold quickly devolved into pneumonia. On January 5, Dan went to the ER from where he was quickly admitted into the hospital by the great doctors of St. Joseph's of Orange.

Over the next ten days, Dan experienced a number of health issues that led to many of us praying for God's healing hand to be on him. He experienced double pneumonia, sepsis, and the collection of fluid in his lungs. It was a trying time for his family and loved ones, specifically Kristin, Jenna, and Aaron.

As Dan’s health recovered at a somewhat steady rate, he was even looking forward to getting released from the hospital. Unfortunately, he experienced a severe setback on January 17 as the infection returned with a vengeance in one of his lungs. Now Dan was put on a steady supply of oxygen to help him breathe so that his body could overcome this invading virus.

A week ago Dan was sedated and intubated to allow his body to rest and recover. As hard as this is to see, this will allow his body to heal without fighting against itself. Dan does have a long road ahead of him in making a full recovery from his extremely difficult battle with this vicious virus.

Dan is a true example of what it means to be a faithful servant to the Lord. He has always made sure that the needs of others come before his own. He enjoys authentic, caring relationships with everyone that he encounters. He is selfless and a true example of someone who loves his neighbor, as the Gospels encourage all of us to do.

Right now, Dan is that neighbor, who needs our love, which can show itself in many forms: prayers, cards, well wishes, or donations (if you are in a place to help). Dan does have a long road ahead of him to get back up to full speed, when we can once again hear his signature "WRRAAPP UUPP" that is ever so loved by his students. As you know, hospital care is very expensive, and Dan is approaching four weeks in the hospital and likely will be there considerably longer. During that time he has moved from normal care to medium care to intensive care. With each increase in monitoring and nursing care, the price tag goes way up on a daily basis. Any help that you can offer is greatly appreciated. More than anything else, please continue to lift up Dan, Kristin, Jenna, and Aaron in prayer. Praise the Lord that He is watching over Dan. Ask the Great Physician to rest His healing hand on our brother in the faith.

Never underestimate the power of our Lord and Savior! God Bless!
