Damion's Quest for Time

In March, 2023 the unimaginable diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer rocked my family's world. Our pillar, my children's father and my husband, began an extremely difficult journey fighting colon cancer which has now spread to his liver, abdomen, and bones.

Damion has been a brave and ferocious warrior, but the fight is wearing him thin. Doctors are running out of options to give him a span of time here with quality of life in which he can spend with me, our son, Max (20), and our daughter, Emerson (17). Recently our doctor changed his outlook of 2 to 5 years to months. This has been a difficult and hard look at reality. We need more time with him.

The many trials Damion has endured this past year include:

1 major surgery (ostomy), 1 semi-permanent drain inserted to the abdomen (which we keep up at home), 20 chemo treatments, 2 blood clots and countless scans and blood draws. He has lost 75 pounds of body mass. The treatments are relentless and devastating in all ways.

We are working hard to find other options to extend his life here on earth and have found treatment facilities outside the United States which offer hope and advanced treatments to cancer patients. The opportunity for Damion to travel is waning and we need to act fast before he starts a third-line of treatment here in the United States.

It will take money up front $40,000-45,000, that we do not have due to the past year of surgeries and traditional treatments, along with a loss of salary and Max's college tuition costs. (Jarring sidenote: it costs $32,000 for each chemo treatment in the U.S.)

The overall cost for treatment will include three weeks of in-patient care with up to 200 treatments during that time. It also allows me, as a caregiver and partner, to live with him on-site and all of our meals are provided. The whole body treatments will use both Eastern and Western medicine. But perhaps most important- our ultimate goal will be to have quality time (and more of it) together as a couple and a family. In addition, funds will also allow us to pay for mounting expenses as treatments are extended.

Damion and I are both very proud people and this is a hard ask of you- our tribe. We are so very thankful to all of our wonderful family and friends who have worked hard to support us so far in this journey, and we are humbly asking for your help some more. This treatment, we hope, will allow Damion the time to witness and enjoy important milestones in our children's lives, like Emmy's upcoming dance recitals, Max's college football games in the fall, and Emmy's high school graduation next spring.

Each day is a wonderful gift and we believe this opportunity in a new medical setting is our last chance at securing those moments for Damion (or George if that is how you know him) and our kids!
