Damion Gallegos healing fund

On June 14th Damion went to the emergency room after many weeks of exhaustion not feeling well with pain in his leg and difficulty walking.  At the ER he was diagnosed with a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and severely high blood pressure.  Two years ago he suffered from the same thing however that blood clot was much smaller and he thought he had fully recovered.  For the past two weeks he has been given high doses of blood thinners and medication to control his blood pressure, including shots in the stomach twice a day! Doctors are  trying to keep the blood clot from getting any larger and hoping that his body will do its job to eventually shrink and dissipate it on its own and avoid surgery.  The danger of having a DVT especially one of this size is that it can break off and become a PE (pulmonary embolism) this means the blood clot can travel to the heart or lungs or brain and if that happens becomes extremely life threatening and in many cases causes sudden death.   It is going to be a few months of careful observation and he is not in the clear just yet for a full recovery.  He is able to take short walks now after being treated with medication and return to some activities however Damion will only be able to do very limited work at this time in his studio.  With a DVT the worst thing a person can do is sit for hours on end and mix and record music like he does. Since the March shelter in place orders went into effect he has maintained his own self isolation and did not allow anyone in his studio for the protection of himself and others.  Damion spent most of the shut down time working on his own personal projects but not generating any income to pay rent and keep Chub Studio going.  He has not yet been able to receive unemployment or any of the funds allocated for the pandemic to pay bills. Now with this diagnosis things are looking bleak for returning to his usual work flow.

At this time it is of the utmost importance that he not be exposed to multiple band members coming in and out of his studio and will only be able to take jobs that limit his exposure on a case by case basis, such as mixing and mastering for artists.  The DVT could still be life threatening and a Covid exposure would only complicate things further.  Damion does not want to lose his beloved studio that he has spent the last 20 years recording, mixing and mastering bay area music in.  Chub Studio is his home away from home.  We need to generate funds in order to keep him fed healthy organic food, pay rent and for medications and alternative holistic treatments not covered by his insurance so that the studio doors remain open for when he can return  to work with others.  The doctors have told him this will be a lifelong danger for him now that its his second time around.  Any donations at this very stressful time would be greatly appreciated.  We would not be asking for help if the situation was not dire.  Damion realizes so many are suffering due to the current world events and sends love to all who are impacted like him.

Chub Studio has been an important part of the Bay Area music scene for 20 years. Because of his reasonable rates and the combination of vintage gear and most up to date recording equipment, as well as his one of a kind production- he’s had everyone in there from multi-platinum artists to cult legends, to kids getting their first album recorded.  He has spent his time in the studio moving on from his former lead singer role of Fungo Mungo to learning how to expertly mix, master and capture amazing recordings for those he serves.

Here are just some of the artists:

The Coup/ Boots Riley (Sorry To Bother You Movie Soundtrack), Mac Dre, B Legit, E40, Vernon Reid. Flipper

Kris Novaselic (Nirvana), John Doe (X) Chuck Billy (Testament), Fantastic Negrito,
Japanther, Silk E, Rupa and the April Fishes, Eric McFadden, Lady Seamonster, Crash Landing, Spider Garage , Howardian, Bobby Tenor, Madam Blatowski Overdrive, Fred, All Time Highs, Night Shakes, Donovan Plant, Barrrio Manouche, Fungo Mungo, KBRANDOW, Sleep In Fame

We need Damion to keep bringing his magic to the music scene here. We need to keep Chub Studios from closing down. Updates to the studio need to be made to work with this new health issue. He’ll be modifying his mixing board to create a standing workstation and bringing in a treadmill or exercise bike. This costs money, of course- but first he has to get better. This means he won’t be able to be in there working like he was for some months, but he’s got to keep the bills paid to keep it running. Let's support Damion in his time of need and also keep the amazing musical resource of Chub Studio alive.

If you are one of the artists not mentioned here please let us know who you are we don't want to leave anyone out!
