My mum was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) around 2006. After tragedy struck in 2011 when our dad, and mum's husband, Brian died of a short battle with cancer, her condition started to deteriorate but she was still able to walk using walking aids allowing her to have independence.
Since January 2018, our mum's condition has now worsened, and she has been unable to walk independently which in turn has now made her lose her independence and is now relying on the assistance of carer's and family for her daily needs and to get around to appointments etc.
Mum is now in bed and can only use a wheelchair for a maximum of 2 hours per day as any longer could cause her pain.
In order to help her have a better quality of life and to get her out and about we require the use of a specially designed static chair, this will enable her to not be in bed for the better part of the day and also help her get around the house and enjoy spending time with family and friends rather than being stuck in her bed and unable to enjoy everyday activities.
We want to be able to bring a smile back to our mums face, as she has looked after us in the past and now it is our time to help our mum, but unfortunately due to the extensive cost of her care and the limited funds we have we are unable to purchase the chair out right as these chairs cost between £2,500 to £3,000. The NHS only go as far as helping with the costs of wheelchairs, hoists, hospital beds and shower chairs which help with daily needs. Although we are grateful of this equipment, my mum will benefit from the static chair as she will be able to eat, not lay down in bed, it will help her posture as she will be able to sit up using her hips and will reduce the chances of bedsores occurring which would cause more pain on top of the existing discomfort she already has.
Therefore we are asking, our family and friends alike, for your help in order for our mum to have the life she deserves even despite the illness that has been bestowed upon her.
