Here's a little more about Dakotah and his story:
Dakotah graduated from Ottumwa HS in Ottumwa, Iowa in May 2012. He has Lynch Syndrome, an inherited DNA mutation, that caused him to contract cancer and he has a 50% of acquiring cancer throughout his lifetime. On February 27th he was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma of the rectosigmoid region of the colon. On March 8th he underwent an operation to remove 14 inches of his colon, reconstruct it, remove tissue from the back side of his bladder, and remove lymph nodes. On March 13th the pathology results confirmed that the cancer was stage 3 and had spread to his lymph nodes, blood streams, and other body regions. He received Chemotherapy treatments and radiation for several months in an attempt to stop the spread of the cells and kill the cancer. He received his last chemo treatment on September 13, 2012. On November 2, 2012 he was hospitalized again and had a colonoscopy performed on Monday November 5, 2012 in which the results determined that there was a large tumor in his lower colon. The cancer had aggressively returned and his physicians had only given him 3-6 months to survive. Unfortunately all treatment options failed and did nothing to slow the growth of the cancer. Dakotah got in-home hospice care and lost his battle last night (03/01).
Any unused funds will go directly to spread awareness of Lynch syndrome and/or other cancer awareness nonprofits.
