Daisy's Surgery Care

Donation protected
We are the last person we thought would ever be posting something like this; however, we have had a situation that we are sad to say we could use your assistance with if you are so led to help.

Below, you will see pictures of Daisy (our 5 month old Beagle) and Maggie (our 13 month old Lab). We could say they are the sweetest, best, etc. dogs, but everyone says that about their “fur babies”. And they would not be lying. However, what we have come to realize is that God put these two on this earth for us, just as He has put yours on this earth for you. So, when people say “our fur-kids are the (enter superlative here)”, it is because God created that particular companion just for you, to be with you, and to care for one another for a period of time while we are on this earth. It is of this “care” that prompts us to write this post.

We consider ourselves to be very responsible pet owners. We did not enter in to our pet-family thinking all that needed to be done was food, water, the occasional set of shots, and love. We understand that our fur-kids, like people, need extemporaneous care at times and we were (and are) committed to the care needed for healthy and happy companions as we journey ahead in this life. However, a curve was just thrown at us that we and few people are truly prepared for.

Last night (December 10), our little Daisy was involved in a freak accident and broke her neck. Fortunately, there was no paralysis. She is in a lot of pain and we had to take her to the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The staff here (and at Animal Emergency Care of Braselton) are absolutely wonderful. The good news is the doctors feel like with surgery and a few lifestyle modifications (no jumping up-and-down on furniture, harness walking only) she can be expected to live a happy and healthy life with us as planned. The bad news is the required surgery and care is definitely not an item budgeted for.

Please know, had the doctors indicated any quality of life issues indicating Daisy would be suffering, we would have made the hard choice of sparring her that. However, we have been assured that is not her case at all. And I am ashamed to say that I cannot begin to describe the agony we went through last night trying to figure out how we could pay for the required care so Daisy has the life she deserves. We will say that we would wish what we went through last night on no one.

We have set-up the following “GoFundMe” account for anyone who would like to help defray some of the cost. We admit we are embarrassed to be asking for this help, but we pledge this: Any amount collected over and above the cost of Daisy's surgery and care (estimated to be between $5000 and $6000) will be “paid forward” and go directly to the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital to be used to alleviate the financial consideration of the next person or persons finding themselves in a similar situation.

We thank you in advance for your consideration, shares, and most of all your prayers.
