Help a brother out.

Well here it goes... back in the fall of 2017 my brother Jacob had been working at the hospital after completing a 2yr LPN program. Sometime after he was told by our mother that he had never had chicken pox, nor had he had the varcella vaccine(now given routinely to infants but not in the late 1970’s).Since he was mostly working with the elderly he was concerned about contracting shingles. So after discussing it with a nurse he was instructed to take the vaccine. This is where things go bad... somehow the vaccine entered his spinal fluid and attacked his nervous system. The neurologist diagnosed it as Spinal Meningitis. He was numb from the waist down and could not walk as he had minimal leg function. He was sent home after a few weeks in the hospital. To date, as far as he knows there is no other known case to his severity. Also, there is no expected recovery. He is in extreme pain daily and has trouble getting around. He can no longer work, but thankfully is currently receiving workers compensation benefits. No pain medications have helped with the pain and no therapies have provided any comfort or relief. His wife and kids have to sit and watch and try to function on a normal basis. Anyone who knows him can understand how difficult it is for him to see that. He was a very energetic guy and loved enjoying the outdoors with his kids. Currently, he is waiting for a referral for the Stan Cassidy Centre in Fredericton. While it will be a relief to get him in there and hopefully get some level of recovery for him, it will also be a burden on the family to transport him on weekends to see his children. As all of his friends know, Jacob is a great mechanic and always bought vehicles he could repair when needed. Unfortunately, that is no longer a possibility. The truck is undriveable at this point and the van is hanging on by a thread. They desperately need reliable transportation to transport Jacob back and forth to his many appointments. They say money doesn’t buy happiness but I believe this will help bring them some relief.  We appreciate any support that is given. Every bit donated will go directly to helping Jacob and his family during this extremely difficult time. We thank you for any amount given. Every little bit helps.
