Pat's new lungs

Pat is a loving wife, mother, and grandma. She was diagnosed with LAM (lymphangioleiomyomatosis) approx. 11 years ago. LAM is a rare lung disease that mostly affects women of childbearing age. In LAM, abnormal, muscle-like cells begin to grow out of control in certain organs or tissues, especially the lungs, lymph nodes, and kidneys. Over time, these LAM cells can destroy the normal lung tissue. As a result, air can’t move freely in and out of the lungs. In some cases, this means the lungs can’t supply the body’s other organs with enough oxygen. She had been on the transplant list for over 5 years and with a high anti-body count, finding a matching donor was looking doubtful. Doctors said that she would have been lucky to live another 6 months with the condition of her lungs.
     On July 1st my mom was given the amazing gift of a life saving lung transplant. We feel so thankful, so blessed for this gift. Words cannot describe how thankful we are to the donor and their family for giving this amazing gift of life. The impact of one individual’s selflessness is immeasurable. She has been surrounded by love from friends and family throughout this process. Everyone has been amazing! Thank you! Though my parents have a chance to start their life again, their medical bills are mounting up. My mom’s anti-rejection medicine costs several hundred dollars a month in co-pay alone. In addition to paying their home mortgage, she has also incurred lots of expenses while living in Seattle during her recovery process. Unfortunately, the medical bills will always be there because the expensive anti-rejection meds can never be stopped. We are asking for your help to bring a little financial relief from her medical bills. Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.
