Raising Money for Domestic Violence

Donation protected
I am looking to break the assisted record on the Appalachain trail.

I have always loved the outdoors and spent lots of time outside.

After my first year in college (2005) I had a summer internship at a wilderness adventure camp as a trip leader.

Ranging from 3-4 days on the Saint Croix River to a full blown 10 day trip in the allagash waterway.

That summer is when I got first chance to hike a part of the Appalachian Trail. I was hooked. This trail only 20" in width winding through the woods for miles that you could just keep going if you had the time.

This record is currently held by Jennifer Pharr Davis. She currently holds the unofficial record for the fastest thru hike of the Appalachian Trail with a time of 46 days, 11 hours, and 20 minutes, an average of 47 miles (76 km) a day, set on July 31, 2011.

So I am at the point in my life that I could step away from my job, I have a 8 month old that I dont want to miss any time with but before she gets any older I want to make this happen.

And I have my beautiful wife who is behind me and is willing to let me go and take a shot at the record and completing a life long dream of completeing the whole trail.

BUT.....

This is all under a banner of something bigger and more sincere than a guy breaking a record.

I would love to introduce you to my mother, Paulette Propst.

But my mother and us kids (4) had a life with my father that was marked by verbal and physical abuse. Through the years there were events where we should have seen what was happening as wrong and dangerous and did something about it.

However us kids were only enduring the ride. My mothers intensions where the greatest, to keep her family together....

But my mother was under a cloud of abuse that does not allow ones self to see the danger on the situation they are in.

Finally she did what we thought would almost never happen.

She filed for a divorce and also a restraining order against my dad.

Then my father who was already out of the house from a mutual agreement, received the papers for the divorce and restraining order.

In August of 2011 my father snuck up to the house and entered through a back door. Then took aim with a pistol and shot my mother with a .45 Caliber pistol. She was on the couch and on the phone with a family member when he shot her.

My sister was also in the house...

He proceeded down the hall where my sister was getting into the shower. But she had heard the shots from the pistol.

She jumped through a very small window, naked.

And as soon as she hit the ground outside she heard the door kick in behind her.

She took off running to a neighboring house for help.

They took her in and he didnt know where she had gone.

We had to bury my mother under cover of the U.S. Marshalls watching for my father.

He was also part of the U.S. corrections swat team. (Special Weapons and Tactics) He was a very good sniper....

It took 30 days to find him....

They found him in his truck where he died from overdosing on pills.a

All of this to tell you that I want to raise money for this trip and everything else above and beyond what it takes for me to complete the trail will be donated to several domestic violence awareness organizations.

I am expecting around $10,000 cost for the trip. Everything else goes in my mothers name to help those in the same situation.

So here is to doing something amazing for an amazing woman.
