Michael is the sweetest , most adorable child you will ever meet. He loves legos, math, playing flag football, cats and pigs. We were looking forward to having a fun summer and celebrating his 11th birthday. That all changed on June 11, 2014.
His body made antibodies to attack a strep infection and instead attacked his brain (specifically his basal ganglia cells) resulting in severe OCD, sleeplessness and limiting his daily functions. This disorder is called PANDAS "Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder". Our son no longer leaves the house, does not feed himself, walk, run or play with his legos or friends. All this can be resolved with treatment !!!!!
Because PANDAS is relatively new, many doctors have not heard of this and insurance has denied all claims to see specialists because they do not understand the disorder. As a result, our family has had to pay for all costs and it has been difficult. Just one visit to the doctor was 700.00.
We found a treatment center that lasts 3 weeks that can help him return to his sweet loving self. However, the cost for this is 10,000 plus travel as it is out of state. (The one in California was 30,000 cash...) Insurance denied any help and our family has to come up with this money. Any donation that you can offer, would be appreciated.
There are no words to describe what it would be like to just to see our son go outside, use his hands again, run and play as any typical 10 year old would. It would be the greatest gift for him as he turns 11 years old at the end of August and we can start "the New year" fresh.
