In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, Australian non-essential businesses have been forced to shut/limit their services. While the list is not exhaustive; cafes, restaurants, hairdressers, specialist retail stores among others, have suspended business to an absolute halt at the whim of a pandemic. This has a massive societal impact with regards to the economy, cultural impact but more importantly, so many peoples livelihood
In the spirit of community, this go-fund-me has been created to shout your local the average economic equivalent of a coffee, which for the purposes of this fundraiser is $4.00.
We as the customer are often engaged with finding an experience that is value for money, but we often forget that businesses are equally if not more passionate to facilitate that experience to the best means they can. Without an active stream of willing customers, many businesses will suffer, and some may not continue to operate again. This will potentially mean no more Sunday catch-ups with your best friend, no more haircuts from the barber who knows your hair better than you do, no more cute kitsch knitwear from your local clothes store. The places that have been the context for many experiences and memories you've had are at risk.
Nothing exemplifies the Aussie spirit like shouting your mate a bevy, a delicious coffee; buying your bestie that cute top she liked at the clothes store or getting your bro that voucher to the restaurant he's been raving about to get to. For each $4 (equivalent of an average latter), the money accrued will be directly fed back into helping small businesses sustain their operations; whether wages for non-working employees or to their direct service. The means through which this will be done is still being figured out, but it is of a moral obligation that 100% of the raised money will go back into the Ballarat small business community.
As a wise person once said, the sum is the measure of its individual parts. It may not be much but it's a start
