Dad's Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
On Christmas Day 2014, my Dad had a massive stroke.  He was only 62 years old, a vibrant, energetic, and loving man. He lost the entire use of his left side and suffered cognitive damage (memory, reasoning, spatial awareness), leaving him bedridden and completely dependant.  We were not given much hope by the doctors, but decided as a family that he would beat the odds and that we would help him get there - no matter what it took.

Since then we have been fighting daily to get him the rehabilitation and care required to help him on the long road back.  He has made amazing progress and is now at home, living with me in Maryland, continuing his hard work in the hopes of returning to the life he loved so much before the stroke.  Our goal is to get him back to his home in NJ by the start of the fall.

With all of the sacrifices and victories along the way, one of the roadblocks that my family can't seem to overcome is financial.  With family having to take unpaid leave to provide him with 24-hour supervision and give up part-time work, money has quickly become scarce.  Insurance has begun to cap his benefits and soon he will only attend therapy if we can pay out of pocket. On top of that, the assistive equipment  that he needs at home to recover are beyond our abilty to self pay and are not covered by his insurance.  With all the things Dad has overcome, I refuse to allow a lack of money to be the one insurmountable obstacle between him and his chance at that full recovery.

With all the people in my life that have offered us support and asked "how can I help," I know that we can get the funding for Dad.  I will post updates, share stories, and be sure to let you know when and how the money is being spent.

Any money that we raise in this fund that we do not need for rehabilitation, or is over our goal, will be donated to the National Stroke Association for research and to help others.

Thank you in advance.
