Melinda was in a terrible car accident on Tuesday, October 8th. Her first concern was Chesney, her cat who was in the car, when she came to.
In her own words, "When you're driving and feel tired please pull over and call someone. I've been lucky way too many times, and God definitely protected me this time. I should have died. Fell asleep at the wheel and went off the road, missed a tree and hit a huge rock. Totaled my car, bruised my lung and pancreas, broke 7 ribs and fractured my sternum. Thank you to all of the rescue workers that got me out of my car and to the hospital. Thank you Gordon for taking Chesney home. Thank you to my family for dropping everything and being with me."
Mel is the Med Tech at the Humane Society Waterville Area and she's one of the most selfless people we know. She puts every single animal before herself each day. She makes sure each kitten and cat feels loved, warm and safe, even those that are covered in fleas, filth or urine. She kisses them on the top of their heads and gets them the help they need. We're pretty sure she would work 24/7 if she could.
Now it's time for us to help her. Unfortunately the shelter does not offer health insurance, so Mel's going to be receiving huge bills soon, plus she totaled her car. We, at the shelter, want to do everything we can so she can rest, heal and return stronger than ever.
