A Diabetic Alert Dog for Caleb

Donation protected
Caleb is a bright, loving, seven year old boy who loves to swim and play soccer. Caleb developed Type 1 diabetes at the age of three, changing his life, and the lives of all who love him, dramatically.  He is so very brave. He doesn't fuss or complain about the 8-10 pokes a day to check his sugar. He rarely argues about the food he has to eat, or to give up.

Like other type 1 diabetics, Caleb's life is dependent upon measured and timely doses of insulin. All day. All night. Calculations are constant and complicated. Management is a balancing act. He can't live without insulin, but too much will kill him. His dosing needs to be changed daily. Kids with type 1 diabetes also face the threat of long-term complications that are unimaginable.

Diabetic Alert Dogs are a recent intervention for helping those with Type 1 Diabetes. Caleb's diabetes means we can never stop thinking about him, but with a properly trained medical alert dog we can relax a little more each day as it grows to know him.
We sometimes worry that Caleb will be unable to lead an independent life; but with a DAD dog with him, he can start to feel self-reliant, free to be more active and fully enjoy living life.

Diabetic Alert Dogs are also very expensive to obtain and train. That's why we are asking for your help. Thank you!
