Hello Everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to read Cynthia Wise’s story. Cynthia is the mother of a wonderful son, a loving daughter, awesome sister and the best friend I can ever have. On April 15, 2016, Cynthia was given bad news for the second time in her life. She was diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer. This came as a total shock to Cynthia, her entire family and myself.
Cynthia was diagnosed with a rare case of Lung Cancer in 2008 due to a molar pregnancy. She went through chemotherapy, other treatments and medicines for many months. She was unable to work and care for her young son, at the time. She was in and out of the hospital every other day. With that said, this was really a rough time for her and we almost lost her. She went through a lot but eventually she won her battle of lung cancer but her body was never the same again.
Eight years later, she was diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer on April 15, 2016, but this time it was a little different. Cynthia’s body never fully recovered from her chemotherapy and treatments from the lung cancer. Now she has to start all over again, but she has to receive chemotherapy, radiation, and she had to undergo a full double mastectomy. This went on for over a year. Now in June 2017, she received so more bad news, due to her cancer, she was advised to have another major surgery, a full Hysterectomy to avoid any cancer cells attacking her uterus. She is still recovering from that surgery. Cynthia is now in treatment for the first part of her breast reconstruction surgery. This treatment is going to take many months because her body is not healing fast enough. She has to take physical therapy three times a week and hopefully she will be able to start the second part of reconstruction surgery later next year.
The emotional and financial burden of surviving cancer is a challenge, but to go through lung cancer and then Stage II breast cancer within an eight years span has been overwhelming for Cynthia. She has been unable to work since the first day she was diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer. Cynthia son James, who is now 14 years old and he has also been deeply affected by his mother’s second battle with cancer. Cynthia has been unable to receive disability benefits from the Social Security Administration. She has been denied twice. She is faced with all types of medical bills, medicines and household bills and not including trying to raise her son and his needs for clothes and school supplies. We do not want her to lose her home, which she been living in for over 25 years.
Cynthia has been through so much. This is why I decided to start this fund. We have been friends for over 43 years and it hurts to see my best friend go through this journey with so many challenges. It has devastated her emotionally. We will be running and walking in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure on October 15, 2017 in honor of Cynthia. This fund will help towards the upcoming surgeries, treatments and medical bills that she has created, as well as the ones to come in the future. Cynthia still has a long road to go. Any donations are greatly appreciated and will be a huge help towards Cynthia’s challenges ahead. Thank you so very much for your support.
