Cycle For Claire

Unfortunately the last two years haven’t been the kindest. It is with great sadness for us to say that in July 2020 Claire Goldsmith passed away. Claire has left a huge hole in the lives of everyone who knew her. Claire is sorely missed.

It is with great pleasure though that we announce that we’re getting the band back together. In April 2022 we will finally be attempting the BIG cycle from Brighton to Amsterdam in memory of Claire. The latest dates for the trip are as follows:

14th April: Ditchling Beacon - Calais
15th April: Calais - Bruges
16th April: Bruges - Rotterdam
17th April: Rotterdam - Amsterdam 

We would like to take this time to thank everyone who has donated money to the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance, a charity that we will continue to support during this ride.

Our Story

We are raising money to support the Kent Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust. Our plan is to cycle from Brighton to Amsterdam in just four days.

We are a group of twelve close friends that are aware of the great work the air ambulance do, and through an unfortunate and close to heart event last year would like to support them.

But first, let us tell you about Claire. Claire Goldsmith is an amazing woman. Mother to Tom, Alfie, Naomi and Angus; wife to James. A keen cyclist, skier, outdoor enthusiast and amazing photographer; but more importantly, always up for a challenge!

Claire and James have always been the first to welcome us into their home and get involved with the goings on of all their children, friends and all their children's friends too!

In the April of 2019, whilst out on one of her many regular cycle rides, Claire suffered an unfortunate accident. This has left Claire in a stable yet unconscious state. So why cycle from Brighton to Amsterdam?

Well, not only do we want to challenge ourselves physically, doing the sport Claire loves (and maybe make us all a bit fitter), but our plan is to cycle from Goldsmith to Goldsmith. Starting at their family home in Sussex and finishing at Angus' new home in Amsterdam.

Our plan:

29th May -  1st June 2021

Day 1: approx 80 miles from Brighton to Calais
Day 2: approx 80 miles from Calais to Bruges
Day 3: approx 90 miles from Bruges to Rotterdam
Day 4: approx 45 miles from Rotterdam to Amsterdam

It was after Claire's accident when she was air lifted by Kent Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance to hospital in London.
