Cycling for Net Zero

We live in a world where everything moves at neck-breaking speed: our lives, technology, the economy…you name it.

Never in history has there been a time so filled with opportunity.

However, with opportunity come costs. The bigger the opportunity, the bigger the costs.

Over the last century or so, to pursue our growth ambitions, we’ve taken out a massive mortgage and used our planet as a collateral.

Fast forward to 2023, the interests have compounded and payback time is approaching.

Climate change is a force to be reckoned with and one that will leave nothing and nobody unaffected, despite our efforts to sweep it under the carpet.

Looking at myself, I am far from being a model of sustainability: having traveled extensively across the world over the past decade, my carbon footprint is significantly higher than the average human being and it increases with each of the about 40 flights I take each year.

The way I live is killing the world, and others less lucky than me, every single day, and it is unjustifiable.

There’s no single action, campaign or marketing stunt that can turn the situation around, but I feel like it’s worth starting somewhere.

For this reason, thanks to Salesforce’s Volunteer-Time-Off and Donation-Matching policy, and inspired by activists like Omar Di Felice, this August I will cycle from Dublin, Ireland, to my hometown near Trento, Italy, with a double goal:

This isn't a solo endeavor. I will be talking about this journey on Linkedin, Instagram and Strava as I pedal through Europe, sharing more details about this initiative and spreading awareness about the urgent need for climate action.
