Cycle to Amsterdam - Ted Foundation

On the 17th of October the 6 of us will be setting off for a 292 mile cycle to Amsterdam over 4 days to raise money for the Ted foundation. We’re a mixed ability group and in October with the days drawing in a good amount of teamwork will be needed to cover our miles each day within daylight hours - at this stage we’re not ruling out a backup bike-toerope for some of our slower members! However training is underway and we’ll all get there in the end, and with your help can raise money for a very worthwhile cause.
The Ted foundation was set up by the family of Ted Senior who tragically took his own life at the start of this year. Ted was a friend of ours through our good friend Rob Sidwell, who is running a marathon in Amsterdam with a group all also raising money for the Ted Foundation, which we’ll be at to support them, the day after we arrive.
Anyone that knew Ted knows that he offered a lot as a person to a lot of people and was very well liked, often described as the sort to ‘light up a room’. He was great to spend time with, a gifted sportsman and had just started his first year at Swansea medical school. The tragedy of Ted’s death has affected so many and the foundation that’s been set up can help prevent further tragedies of this sort and the resulting damage to family and friends. The Ted foundation is in the process of setting up a charity to provide funding for and improve university student support services, particularly with regard to mental health.
Although awareness and funding is improving for some areas of mental health, suicide is still the biggest cause of death in Males under 45. With regard to university students, in 2015 alone a record 2,050 students dropped out of university due to mental health conditions, whilst the number of suicides among full-time students in England and Wales increased from 75 in 2007 to 134 in 2015. There remains a lot of work to be done to both increase the support available for students suffering from mental health problems and to ensure accessibility for all. The Ted Foundation aims to assist in tackling some of these shortfalls.
Any money you can donate to this very important cause would be greatly appreciated and will be well spent.
