Hi my name is Betsy and would like to begin to tell you a little bit of myself and about someone that is very special to me. That is my son Devon and why I am here asking for help. People that have known me for many years have always seen me as independent and never the one to ask for anything...until now. I'm a single mother of two kids Devon 12 and Leilanie 4. I live alone with both my kids and I work part time taking care of my mother as a PCA. It's been a hard long journey taking care of all my son's needs and for many years trying to keep him alive and to stay with me. At this moment my son has been at Baystate Hospital for the past week and he will be here for the next 3 weeks. Doctor's say he doesn't have long now :( I want my baby here but as a mother I don't want to see him suffer anymore. At this point I am in need of help and I am asking for donations for personal (food to eat at hospital) medical and funeral expenses. Anything that you can contribute, will be greatly appreciated from the bottom of my heart. Thank you and God Bless ❤️
History: Devon was born full term and was a healthy little boy until he was 2 years old. I notice he wasn't eating much or gaining weight. He was tiny not growing or talking. At 3 1/2 years old he was diagnosed with a rare disease called MELAS it's a genetic disorder that affects the mitochondrial in the cells. More than half of his mitochondria (battery of the cell) do not work causing all major organs to not function properly. At the age of 4 Devon had a first stroke like episode and another one at age 5 causing his muscles to become weak and to have ongoing seizures. Mito or MELAS has also affected his heart, lungs, GI tract and kidneys. His body is slowly shutting down. He's been in and out of hospitals his whole life fighting to stay alive. He is now 12 years old and is at his last stages of life at Baystate Hospital through hospice care. Doctors say that he probably have only 3 weeks or less to live :( Hope you can find it in your hearts to donate anything at this time of need...thanks ahead
