KAYLA C' s MEDICAL FUND

Donation protected
This story is of a little girl named Kayla. Kayla is 7 years old and in the second grade. She has beautiful brown eyes, a sweet smile, and...she has cancer. It all started in September of 2016 when Kayla blacked out while walking down a hallway at school. Tests revealed a mass on her kidney - the diagnosis, ' WILMS' tumor. Ordinarily one of the most easily treated cancers for children, Kayla's case was more complicated because the tumor extended upward, a phenomenon known as an intravascular extension. Kayla underwent several months of chemotherapy and radiation to shrink the tumor, and then surgery to remove the affected kidney. This was followed by several more months of chemotherapy until finally in April of this year (2017), scans indicated the cancer was gone. Finally, Kayla, her parents Linda and Claudio, and her older brother Alessio could return to a 'normal' life and begin making plans again. Kayla  would go back to school, attended summer camp, and go on a Disney Cruise with her family in September thanks to the Make a Wish Foundation.
The family's plans came to a grinding halt three months later at Kayla's first follow-up scan. Doctor's found a mass in the region where the intravascular extension had been before. Kayla had only been at summer camp a couple of days, and the Disney Cruise would have to wait, as she now faced six months of more aggressive regimen of chemotherapy, more radiation, and another surgery. She has a long road of recovery ahead of her - the treatments result in severe nausea and compromise her immune system. The harsher treatments require her to be hospitalized for five nights straight each round and there are still several more months to go. She recently under went her second operation, one which lasted over nine hours and which was deemed a success. Kayla is showing the world that she is fierce in facing a disease no child should ever have to face. But Kayla is not the only one impacted by her illness. Her parents and bother have also seen there lives turned upside down. There are frequent trips across the city to the Children' s hospital, and frequent stays as Kayla receives treatment and recovers from their effect. It's hard on Linda and Claudio - it's hard emotionally seeing their child enduring this and it's hard physically as the days turn into weeks and months. It's hard on Alessio, who goes through stretches where he doesn't get to see Kayla and one or both of his parents. Linda has curtailed her work to care for Kayla, so there is less income, but there are still monthly bills to be paid as well as expensive medications and stays at the hospital. As friends we can offer our love, support and prayers, but we also want to do something that will help remove some of the financial stress and enable Linda and Claudio to also take care of themselves and focus their energy on their family. So, we started this GoFundMe campaign to help relieve the finacial pressure that a disease this serious creates.
While speaking to Linda and Claudio about this campaign, we were informed that a portion of the accumulated funds would be donated back to the Montreal Children's Hospital to thank all of the special individuals who have provided Kayla with tremendous care and continue to help her in her battle. Apart from the medications administered regularly , the hospital also provides activities such as pet therapy, arts and crafts, cooking sessions, etc to try to make the children's stay more manageable. Linda and Claudio feel an obligation to try to do as much they possibly can so that such initiatives continue for all children in future. We welcome anyone who would like to join us in this cause, and ask with hearts in hands, that you consider a donation to Kayla's GoFundMe account. Share her story. No donation is too small, and all donations will be gratefully accepted.
Kayla is a strong little girl and an inspiration to all who know her. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.
