Help with burial cost

As a mental health Officer for the Orem Police Department, I have the pleasure with working with those in the community that have or are experiencing a mental health crisis. My position allows me to create valuable relationships, with those in need, and more importantly, help them as well as their family to identify a plan of action for their road to recovery.

For the past year and a half, I have been working with a young man, who has been diagnosed with multiple mental illness disorders, as well as a major medical condition which causes seizures. When I first met with him, he had a very negative perception due in part from having negative experiences with law enforcement. He still lives at home, and I have been working with his mother to help encourage him to continue treatment and mental health services. I am happy to say, that I have genuinely created a “relationship” with him and am happy to call him a friend. I believe that his negative interaction and perspective of law enforcement he had, has forever been changed.  He could tell that I just wanted to help him.

I recently found out that this man’s father had just passed away.  I talked to my friend and his mother on two separate occasions, and they both expressed concern that they do not have the funds, $5000, to purchase a casket for their loved one Gregory.

When I talked to his wife, I found out that Gregory served in Germany in the Vietnam War.  He was a veteran, a father, husband, grandpa, uncle, brother and friend to countless others. The family feels blessed that the VA is assisting with some of the funeral arrangements, but it is not enough to have it covered. I was told that they have until this Friday, January 19th, to come up with $5,000. They have been able to get nearly $500 from friends and family, and really do not see any way of acquiring the rest.

I have decided to reach out and start a “Gofundme” campaign without them knowing, to see what we could do as a community, to help relieve some of financial burden for this family. I would love to be able to give this Veteran a proper resting place.   Any amount that you would be willing to donate would be very helpful.  Thank you for your time, Officer Jeremy Jamison – Orem Police Department
