Firefighter Battling Cancer

Donation protected
Fire Fighter Darrel Wasmer is a twenty-four-year veteran of the Liberty Township Fire Department in Powell, Ohio. Darrel was diagnosed with occupation cancer (Non-Hodgkin lymphoma) in 2016. Since then he has been diagnosed with terminal Amyloidosis. Darrel is fighting the good fight to contain his cancer and to have some quality of life.

Darrel’s workers' compensation claim for cancer was recently approved by the Industrial Commission of Ohio, only to have the Township challenge this ruling in Common Pleas Court, in an attempt to overturn his claim and deny him benefits.

The Township recently separated Darrel from employment and ended his insurance coverage. All while the Township continues to fight against his workers' compensation benefits.

This fund will go directly to Darrel to continue to fight for workers' compensation, assist with purchasing medical insurance, and pay for medical bills not covered by insurance.

Darrel Wasmer is a true public servant with a spotless record and he is battling for his life against cancer he contracted on the job. Worst of all, he was denied the respect to retire with the dignity and honor he deserves. Darrel and his wife are doing everything they can to sustain this battle. All money raised will help them continue to fight.
