Dickinson Texas at 3am....
That's when my family was awakened to the sounds of water rushing in to their house. Some were already asleep and within seconds they had to grab what they could before the the water flooded their house. My mother-in-law can't swim and within that short period of time water was chest deep. They were fortunate to be rescued by some caring neighbors and taken to a multi story administration building while everything they own is now lost. Their cars still still underwater, packed with supplies and full tanks of gas, in case the order to evacuate would be given. They never got the chance to leave.
Within the past four months, that house has seen two weddings of their two oldest daughters and the growth of family founded on the principles of love for one another and a belief in God's plan for all of us.
Not many people outside of Houston know people who have truly suffered total loss and sadly my family had that happen in one night. One home where fond memories of childhood lived. One home where the love for their children spawned to public educators focused on giving their best to the community that welcomed them. One house where I asked the greatest question of my life, for my wife's (Sobia Dixon) hand in marriage.
They are safe and praise God for that, but they will come home to nothing. I ask for your help in rebuilding the life that has been taken from them through this terrible tragedy.
