Around a year ago, as a family, we decided to cut down on our plastic packaging and food waste. We'd all seen images of sea creatures entangled in plastic and the Blue Planet documentary, so we decided to do our bit and reduce our own single use plastic waste. We'll save the planet, we thought. Simple!
It soon became clear that it was not all that easy for the average family, on an average income to achieve this goal. Pasta, rice, grains, seeds, nuts, dried fruits and all manner of other store cupboard staples come in non-recyclable, single use packets! We were so frustrated and we weren't the only ones. We joined lots of discussion forums and it seemed that there was a growing movement to reduce plastic and a growing frustration about single use food packaging. 72.4% of marine debris is single use plastics (bags, lids, containers, polystyrene, styrofoam takeaway cartons...).
So we set to thinking about what we could do about this problem. What if we could create a grocery store where plastic packaging was eliminated and people could choose how much of something they wanted to buy, in what container suited them- Cut the Wrap! The zero waste shop was born.

The idea is simple- buy by weight using a refillable container. The purchase power lies with you as a customer about how much you want to buy, cutting down on food waste as well as plastic packaging. Brilliant! It's a new twist on an old idea. We know from our research that you'd love a shop like this, that saves you money and also saves the planet and we'd love to bring it to you.
But we need your help!
We are an average working family, we have no savings, very little disposable income and no assets, aside from each other and our vision to create a better world. We would love to bring Cut the Wrap! to you as an alternative way of doing your grocery shopping and in order to do that we need money, for premises, the initial stock purchase, equipment, fixtures and fittings, insurances, the list goes on!
We've costed it all out and we can really make this work. We won't make a fortune but we'll make enough for the shop to be sustainable.
So we're asking for your help, as an ethical consumer and someone who cares about our wonderful world, to help us over this first big hurdle.
If 500 people chipped in £20 together we can make this happen! We have some brilliant rewards to offer too, so it's win-win-win!
