Cushing Family Victims of Vicious Car Arson

Hi everyone,

I’m starting this GoFundMe for one of our close family friends, Mikey Cushing. His mom Jackie, his sister Katie, and he moved from Connecticut to Florida in 2018. However, he still comes up to visit us every summer.

This past Friday, Mikey and his family were the victims of a terrifying arson attack. On Friday, June 24, at 4:32am, an unidentified man threw multiple Molotov cocktails into the family's two cars parked just feet away from their home and at a next-door neighbor's car. They woke up at 4:40am to flames shooting toward the home and immediately called 911 and got everyone out of the house.

Thankfully multiple doorbell and security cameras from neighbors captured the man and the events following the arson. Police and fire department officials are still investigating but have yet to figure out who is responsible for the fire. Multiple videos show the person walking in and out of the fenced backyards of neighbors. Additionally, investigators have found numerous glass bottles with flammable liquids and other evidence.

Thankfully nobody was hurt. Mikey and his family lost their two cars, and his mom Jackie works full time and drives to work Monday through Friday. They're currently renting a car for $50/day,

but it's very expensive. Both vehicles were insured, but they aren't able to begin the insurance claims process until the crime scene investigation is complete, which could take up to a week. Mikey said they probably won't get much from their insurance for either of the two cars because they have a high deductible, and both vehicles had high mileage.

Mikey's mom Jackie is also going through a cancer scare and has been in and out of the hospital and meeting with specialists. They've already been dealing with so much due to this cancer scare. On top of this, they're now coping with the psychological and financial stress of a seemingly random arson attack.

Mikey's family is going through a difficult emotional and financial time, so my family and I have set up this GoFundMe to help them get through this crazy time. I know they're all terrified because the criminal who did this hasn't been caught yet. Mikey has said that they've had a hard time sleeping. I can't imagine the stress and anxiety when they woke up to massive flames literally feet away from their bedrooms just a few days ago, and the person who did this is still on the loose.

The Cushing family has helped me put together all of the pictures, videos, and news articles that they have so everyone can see what they're going through. The funds will be used to pay for a rental car, a down payment on used cars, and other unexpected financial needs during this crazy time.
