Talon's Cunningham brace
Donation protected
As most of you know, Talon was born with a clubfoot on the right side. Two weeks after he was born, his treatment started with the orthopedic surgeon using the Ponseti method. The foot was stretched, manipulated, and then cast in that position every week for 4 weeks. At 6 weeks old he had to undergo tenotomy lengthening surgery, where the surgeon cuts the Achilles tendon in order to release the heel into the correct position, and then he was cast again for two more weeks. As part of the outlined Ponseti treatment he was placed in boots and a Ponseti bar (see pics). The boots have caused him to have swelling, bruises, blisters and severe muscle spasms due to the ridged position his feet and knees have to stay in for 23/hrs a day. We happened upon information about a new brace available for children with clubfoot and started to research it further. On Aug. 23 we were given permission from his orthopedic surgeon to switch into the DTKAFO Cunningham brace. This is not covered by our insurance, as it is out of state, so we are hoping to be able to get assistance from you, our friends and family, to be able to get Talon into this new and innovative brace. Funds will help with the round-trip flights, car rental, lodging, the brace fabrication, and 4 days of clinic visits while in Maine.
