As a former Pro cyclist competing in cycling events all over the US and South America,I was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer in 2006.I was able to get a stem cell transplant and beat the cancer, but the chemo destroyed my kidneys.Since 2007 i have been on dialysis. 10 years this coming January. My goal was to start a youth cycling program that would help inner city kids and give them an opportunity to compete as high as they could achive. I had started this before i got sick, but had to take care of my health and well being. In 2014 i was able to start my dream again with some help from former riders and friends.
We now have six 15 yr old riders on the program, and have had the luck to borrow some bikes and clothing from friends, but we still need to purchase ,new bikes, helmets, clothing ,shoes and pay for race fees.We are hoping that we can get some funding so this dream can become true. Our main goal is to be able to develop these riders so they can qualify for Nationals next year and maybe send one or 2 athletes to the olympics in the near future.
