My name is Matt Gould. I am a 36 year-old Air Force veteran. In Oct 2005 I sustained a back injury while serving as a training instructor. In June 2006 I seperated from the Air Force because I was physically unable to perform my duties and have lived in constant, debilitating pain for eight years.
I have two ruptured disks in my back and need a two-level Artifical Disk Replacement. The VA has denied my claim as well as my personal insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield, both citing the ADR procedure as experimental. I have seen four spine specialists over the years who recommend the ADR as the only suitable option for my condition. The FDA has only approved a single level ADR so the surgery I need is not available in the states. I have located a surgeon in Germany who has successfully performed 6,000 multi-level ADR surgeries over the last 30 years.
The cost of the surgery is $45,000. With travel and a two week stay in the hospital the total comes to $55,000. I am self-employed, operating a pub (Black Bison Pub, Syracuse, KS) that I build over a four year period. The pub is doing well but still only 5 months old so money is tight and there is no way I can come up with the money for surgery for several more years. I am nearly incapacitated by pain and can't afford to wait any longer. Doners to my cause are entitled to complimentary food and drinks in my pub as well as accomodations in the luxury Loft above my pub. I would greatly appreciate any help you can send my way.
